Young People in Action with EMRADA

The project, funded by Big Lottery Fund, aims to improve the health and livelihood situation of young people and reduce their vulnerability to HIV and poor SRH&R. The project will also work closely with communities, community leaders, religious leaders, health service providers and government officials.

A Project Advisory Committee (PAC) will be established at district level to oversee the project activities. This committee will include:

  • government officials from health, education and agricultural departments,
  • HIV and AIDS Council Committees members,
  • health workers,
  • and women and youth association members.

840 young people from established youth clubs, reproductive health clubs and anti-AIDS clubs will become peer educators and will be trained on SRH&R, HIV and AIDS and leadership.

A referral system for the following services will be established between the youth centres and health service providers at district level:

  • voluntary counselling and testing,
  • STI testing and treatment,
  • family planning,
  • ante-natal care
  • and prevention of mother to child transmission.
