Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health
Interact Worldwide has joined the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH), becoming a member of the Advocacy Working Group and the NGO Working Group.
Hosted by the World Health Organisation, the Partnership was formed in 2005 and is a fusion of three pre-existing global partnerships- the Partnership for Safe Motherhood and Newborn Health, the Healthy Newborn Partnership and the Child Survival Partnership. The Partnership consists of donors, academics, developing country governments, Northern and Southern NGOs, faith based organisations, UN agencies and professional/workplace bodies. These partners work at global, regional and country level in 60 high burdened countries and the work is focused on 4 areas:
- Advocacy to stimulate new resources and increased political commitment to MDG 4 and 5 and to place them firmly within development discourses at global, regional and country level.
- Promoting effective interventions, disseminating best practice and encouraging governments to take these to scale.
- Country support, improving coordination at country level through the creation of one plan for maternal, newborn and child health.
- Monitoring and evaluation, ensuring indicators on MDG 4 and 5 are monitored, measuring the equity of interventions and tracking donor and government expenditure to this end.
